Browse to the Lijit homepage. Sign in to your account, or click on Sign Up to create an account if you don’t already have one.

Enter your blog URL or your website address in the ‘Enter your blog’s URL’ field and click on the ‘Get Lijit!’ button.

In the next window, enter the URL of other blogs/ sites and even RSS feeds which are related to your particular site, if you wish them to be included in the search. Click on Save and Continue.

Next, select from a list of providers where you might publish your content, and enter your username in the text box. Click Save and Continue.

Next, you can add other blogs and Lijit users to your account. When you’re done, click Save and Continue.

Then you’ll be asked to upload an image to be associated with your search widget. Click Save and Continue.

Finally, you’ll see the Configuration Options. Configure the look and feel of your widget and click on Save Wijit Settings to continue.

You will be directed to a page displaying the code. Copy (Ctrl +C) the code provided.

In Web Designer or Xtreme 5, open the web page in which you wish to embed your Search. Use the Rectangle tool to create a placeholder on your web page where you wish the search box to appear.

Open the Web Properties dialog via Utilities > Web Properties (or by clicking on the icon in the web toolbar or Shift+Ctrl+W) and then click on the Placeholder tab.

Enable the radio button ‘Replace with HTML code’ and paste (Ctrl +V) the code you copied in step 8.

Click on OK to apply the changes and close the dialog.

Browse to the Google Search homepage.

Click on the button ‘Create a Custom Search Engine’.

You will be directed to a page where you can set up your search engine. Note: you will need to sign into your Google account or if you don’t already have an account click on the ‘Don’t have a Google account? Create an account now’ option.

Next, set up your search engine settings. Enter a name, description and language for your search engine. Specify a list of websites to search. Select the edition you'd like to create; standard edition is a free search and the results page shows Google ads, whereas you have to pay for the Business edition but it shows no ads. Check the Terms of Service box and click Next to continue.

The next page allows you to preview and try your search. Click on the Finish button. You will be directed to the custom search management area.

Click on the ‘control panel’ link associated with the search you have created. The control panel is split into multiple sections. To customize the widget, click on the ‘Look and Feel’ link. You will be able to change the hosting option for your search, the layout as well as the style of the search widget. To continue, click on the Save button to save the changes followed by get code button.

You will be directed to a Search box code page displaying the code. Copy (Ctrl +C) the code provided.
